BRUCE RUSSELL – Antikythera Mechanism OUT OF PRINT
Pressed in an edition of 250 copies on 200 gram virgin white vinyl
A new solo LP from this New Zealand expiremental icon. An album comprised of throbbing guitar and tape loop improvisations recorded throughout Australasia. The LP also includes a duo piece with Melbourne based guitar/electronics destructionist Marco Fusinato.
"...one wonders also what researchers might conclude about the world ca. 2010 A.D. if they came across these three mighty slabs of sprawling, grandiose, howling guitar and tape loops two thousand years from now. Bruce Russell's playing is as distorted, uncompromising and downright thrilling as it's ever been... another fine addition to the discography of this ever challenging, thoughtful and thought-provoking musician." – Dan Warburton, Paris Transatlantic
"...Russell at his most Hendrix/amp-destroying. Playing with a machine gun style that comes over like Band Of Gypsies jamming the outro to “Bury”, it’s hard not to anticipate Robbie Yeats staggering in and pushing the whole thing over the cliff... Antikythera Mechanism succeeds because of its status as ‘simply’ a solo guitar record and in its own way it feels as definitive as Donald Miller’s A Little Treatise On Morals, Jandek’s Interstellar Discussion or Keiji Haino’s Affection. Bruce does a lot of actual playing here – as opposed to just letting the guitar sing - and on the third side-long track his guitar sounds closest to Nicholas from Love Cry Want’s guitar synthesizer’, albeit with the dials set to “Iron Man”... in his hands an all-improvised guitar album sounds like the goddamn keys to the kingdom." – David Keenan, Volcanic Tongue.)
